After Franschhoek, we started our drive to little Karoo.
It's a wonderful sunny day. The landscape along the way is breathtaking. The infrastructure and roads are very well maintained and the drivers drive quite politely. The little Karoo, as part of the Karoo, is famous for its semi desert landscape and vegetation. The name of Karoo is popularly known from a Khoi word, meaning Land of Thirst.
We were told that there's a big draught in the south. One can probably see from the dam on the way. The water level is pretty low for sure.
On the route 62, wine yards is still the major theme. We made a little stop at the Nuy. After so much wine tasting yesterday, I went for a white grape drink bottled like white wine. It tastes like sweet Riesling without alcohol.
It seems to become a trendy things that people live in Joburg, Durban and other "big" cities to ponder moving away from their urban life to consol the ansient earnings of nature to "semigrate" to Karoo. The tranquility and friendliness in the towns we drove by indeed have their appealing, however it's hard to imagine how people make a living in theses small towns. The main economy in these regions are farming and a bit growing tourism. If one can enjoy farming the famous Karoo lambs (as famous like Parma ham), ostrich or preferably vines, then perhaps it's a place to be.
